America has celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month since 1927 in order to raise public awareness of speech, language and hearing disorders. An estimated 28 million Americans have a hearing loss that can be treated and 14 million are affected by speech, language or swallowing disorders.

With the help of the staff and Board of Directors of Looper Speech & Hearing Center, Mayor Dennis Mock proclaimed May as Better Hearing and Speech Month.  May is a good time to take stock of your communication needs.

Each year brings new challenges.  This year, we addressed the need to repaint the interior of the older section of the center.  Through “Make A Difference” day, which was funded by Mohawk and organized by United Way, we achieved our goal.  A group of 20 volunteers, headed by Chuck Upchurch, painted the interior in less than 3 hours.  We are extremely grateful to this group of volunteers that gave of their time and talents to improve the appearance of the center.
